1 / 5

On October 10, the delegation led by the RA NA President Alen Simonyan being on a three-day official visit, in Moscow was hosted by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin. The meeting in extended format followed Simonyan-Volodin about one-hour private conversation.

Welcoming his Russian colleagues, Alen Simonyan thanked Vyacheslav Volodin for the invitation, noting that the Armenian-Russian allied cooperation is based on the historically formed friendship between the peoples of our countries.

At the meeting both sides recorded that the guarantee of the continuous development of bilateral ties is the political active dialogue at all levels, particularly, between the heads of our countries, which indicate the dynamics of cooperation in all spheres. In the whole spectrum of bilateral relations, the key role of the parliamentary cooperation was underlined, highlighting the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic Armenia and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. In this context, the sides touched upon topics on the upcoming programmes, documenting that they should continue the work on systemized basis, having distinct indicated vector of development with the principles of maintaining collegiality and strategic partnership.

One of the key issues of the meeting with the Russian colleagues was the armed aggression of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Armenia.

“Our visit to Moscow takes place in the difficult period for Armenia. As it is already known, from September 13 Azerbaijan has begun a new phase of aggression towards the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. The armed forces of Azerbaijan intensively shot in different direction in the depth of the territory of Armenia not only to the positions of the RA Armed Forces, but also to the civil infrastructure facilities. It is a painful fact: we have 207 victims and wounded,” Alen Simonyan noted, naming the large-scale attack of Azerbaijan against the internationally recognized sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia a dangerous tendency with aggressive goals by the Azerbaijan on the CIS territory. In this context, referring to the activity of the CSTO, Alen Simonyan noted that it could not operatively and efficiently respond to the aggression against one of its members. “Armenia has no time for long-term solution on security,” the RA NA President underscored.

At the same time Alen Simonyan expressed hope that the proposals elaborated during the CSTO work will have their contribution to the de-escalation of the situation and the establishment of stability in our region. They related to the issues on the Armenian Diaspora in the Russian Federation and the multi thousands of citizens of the Russian Federation, who came to reside in Armenia.
